DMH Spotlight - Midge Costanza 1932-2010 Back

After years as a Democratic Party volunteer, Costanza was elected to the Rochester City Council in 1973, the first woman elected to the council. The next year she tried, unsuccessfully, to unseat a Republican congressman. Bella Abzug mentored Midge and then Costanza replaced Bella Abzug in the White House, after Jimmy Carter fired Abzug 1/13/79.
