Helen Wedvik quilting in her former NY school

Helen Wedvik ( second from left) quilting with friends at the Atwood Community Center, the former one-room school her father, Elmer Davis, her brother, Harry, she and her sons Walter and Steven attended. This little red schoolhouse on Route 213 is the site of the Christmas bazaar, whose proceeds go to scholarships, volunteer fire departments and rescue squads. Her father, school trustee around 1925, put in the tongue-in-groove floor, and she was trustee when the school closed in the mid-fifties. (from the article by Geddy Sveikauskas in Ulster MAgazine, Winter 1987.) One-room school of Ulster County exhibit available.
